Why the Four Sides Matter

Each side of the sensor has a pair of contacts. The alarm goes off as soon as one of them touches water, so you don't have to worry about how it's oriented: whether it's laid flat, standing on its edge, or slipped into a narrow space, it works.

This is a real practical difference. A sensor that detects only from below must be placed perfectly flat on a flat surface—which doesn't quite describe the back of a washing machine or the bottom of a bathroom cabinet.

Where to place it

Under the washing machine and dishwasher, near the water heater, under the sink, near the drain, in the laundry room, and in the attic if a pipe runs through it. There are few potential leak points, and they are well known: a few detectors cover most of the risk.

To automatically shut off the water

When paired with an Ajax WaterStop valve, the detector does more than just alert you: the water supply shuts off automatically as soon as a leak is detected—even when you’re away.
